What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the boost pressure sensor signal with atmospheric pressure from a sensor built into the control module. The fault is set when the signal is too low or otherwise implausible.
Possible causes
- Loose contact, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the supply wire to the boost pressure sensor
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the boost pressure sensor signal in live data with the ignition on, before starting the engine. See whether it sits at a low value
- 3Look at the boost pressure sensor connector and wiring for loose connections and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire is not broken and that the signal wire is not shorted to ground
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- A calculated boost pressure is used instead
- Control of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is lost
