What does this fault code mean?
The fault means the boost pressure sensor signal is too high compared with what the engine control module (ECM) calculates. The signal is compared with the calculated value, and the fault may be caused by the signal wire touching voltage or by a connection problem.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
- Loose contact
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the boost pressure sensor signal in live data with the ignition on, before starting the engine, and see whether it sits at a high value
- 3Look at the boost pressure sensor connector for oxidation, play and loose connections
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with positive
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice3
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- The car feels poor to drive, with reduced performance and lack of power
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect2
- A calculated boost pressure is used instead
- Control of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is lost
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
