What does this fault code mean?
Boost pressure sensor B gives a signal that is too low compared with what the engine control module (ECM) expects. The control module compares the signal with atmospheric pressure from its own sensor, and the fault is set when the signal is too low.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose contact in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the supply to the boost pressure sensor
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged boost pressure sensor B
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read boost pressure in live data with the ignition on and compare it with atmospheric pressure. A low value points to sensor B or its wiring
- 3Look at the connector to sensor B for loose connections, play and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to sensor B is not broken and that the signal wire is not shorted to ground
- 5Check that the fuses are intact. Fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check boost pressure sensor B with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice3
- The car feels poor to drive, with reduced performance and lack of power
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated boost pressure is used instead
