Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) drives the bypass valve with a PWM signal. The fault is set when the control module registers a fault on that signal, or when the end stage for the valve becomes too hot. The end stage is built into the control module.
Possible causes
- Loose contact, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Open circuit in the supply voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged bypass valve
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector to the bypass valve is secure and clean
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the supply to the bypass valve is not broken
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the bypass valve and listen for it moving
- 5Check that the fuses are intact. Fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the bypass valve with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice4
- The car feels poor to drive, with reduced performance and lack of power
- The car hesitates, surges or runs jerkily
