What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the injection pump. The fault is set when the control module detects that the PWM signal to the fuel flow control valve is incorrect, for example with too many pulses. It may be caused by loose connections or interference on the signal wire.
Possible causes
- Loose connections or contact resistance in the connections on the PWM signal wire
- Interference on the PWM signal wire
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Look at the connectors on the PWM signal wire for loose connections and oxidation
- 3Look for chafing on the wire to the fuel flow control valve, where interference can occur
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel flow control valve drive in live data at idle, and see whether the value jumps
- 5Check that the battery is fully charged and that the earth connections are clean and tight
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the fuel flow control valve and the PWM signal with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car feels poor to drive, with reduced performance and lack of power
- The car hesitates, surges or runs jerkily
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated value is used instead of the measured one
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
