What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the high-pressure side of the fuel system. The high-pressure fuel pump is activated when the ECM grounds the pump's ground lead. The code is stored when the ECM detects that this ground lead has been short-circuited to ground. It is a general electrical fault.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the ground lead
- Ground lead short-circuited to ground
- Damaged fuel pump
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the ground connections to the fuel pump for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4With the ignition off and the connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the pump's ground lead has no open circuit and no contact with the body
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the high-pressure pump and listen for it to start
- 6Have a workshop check the fuel pump and its control
