What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps watch on the fuel flow adjuster valve and how it works. The code is stored when the ECM detects that the PWM (pulse-width modulated) signal that controls the valve is incorrect, here too high. The code is general and does not say what type of fault it is. The fault can only be detected while the engine is running.
Possible causes
- The signal cable is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged fuel flow control valve
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive. First deal with any fault codes for the feed pump
- 2Check that the fuses are intact and that there is enough fuel; top up if the level is low
- 3Look for leaks in the fuel system and check whether the fuel filter is clogged
- 4Check the connector to the fuel flow control valve for contact resistance, oxidation and open circuit
- 5With the ignition off and the connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the signal cable has no open circuit and is not short-circuited to voltage
- 6Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the valve and the control module
Symptoms you may notice4
- The car lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The car hesitates, surges or runs jerkily during acceleration, deceleration and at steady speed
- The engine stalls after starting
- The engine does not start, with or without a clicking sound on start attempts
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
