What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) keeps watch on the injection system and its components. The code is stored when the signal from the fuel metering on injection pump B is incorrect, that is, when fuel flow falls outside the permitted range. The code is general and does not say what type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Too little fuel reaches the injection pump, for example because of a low fuel level, a leak, air in the lines or a clogged fuel filter
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor, injector or fuel flow control valve (MPROP)
- Damaged fuel pressure control valve (PCV) or feed pump
- Damaged injection pump, giving too low fuel pressure
What you can do
- 1First read and deal with any fault codes for the feed pump, then clear the code and test drive the car
- 2Check the fuel level in the tank and top up if it is low
- 3Look for leaks in the fuel system and check whether the fuel filter is clogged
- 4Check the connectors to the fuel pressure sensor and the valves for contact resistance, oxidation and open circuit
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the injection pump and the injectors
