What does this fault code mean?
The code is linked to mechanical faults in the fuel supply, where too little fuel reaches the injection pump. It does not point to any specific component. The engine control module (ECM) detects the fault through fuel metering on B and stores the code only once the conditions for the test are met.
Possible causes
- Too little fuel in the tank, a leak, air in the fuel lines or a clogged fuel filter
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor or injector
- Damaged fuel flow control valve (MPROP), fuel pressure control valve (PCV) or feed pump
- Damaged injection pump
What you can do
- 1First check the fuel level in the tank and top up if it is low
- 2Read and deal with any fault codes for the feed pump, then clear the code and test drive
- 3Look for fuel leaks and check that the fuel filter is not clogged
- 4Check the connectors to the fuel pressure sensor and the valves for contact resistance, oxidation and open circuit
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the injection pump pressure and its valves
