What does this fault code mean?
The engine has a common-rail injection system under very high pressure. The code is stored when the engine control module (ECM) detects that fuel metering on B is too high. The code is general and does not say what type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Fuel flow to the injection pump is too high, caused by a damaged fuel pressure sensor, injector, fuel flow control valve (MPROP), fuel pressure control valve (PCV) or feed pump
- Fuel pressure from the injection pump is too high, caused by a damaged injection pump
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2First check whether the feed pump has any fault codes and deal with them
- 3Check the connectors to the fuel pressure sensor and the valves for contact resistance, oxidation and open circuit
- 4Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the injectors and the injection pump
