What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the voltage lead to the high-pressure fuel pump. The engine control module (ECM) has detected that the lead is short-circuited to supply voltage, which is a general electrical fault. The fault may be in the connectors, the lead or the pump.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the voltage lead
- Voltage lead short-circuited to supply voltage or to ground
- Damaged fuel pump
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the connections to the fuel pump for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4With the ignition off and the connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the voltage lead to the pump has no open circuit
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the voltage lead is not short-circuited to supply voltage or to ground
- 6Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the fuel pump and its control
Symptoms you may notice3
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- Uneven idle
- The car hesitates, surges or runs jerkily, at any time or all the time
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
