What does this fault code mean?
The ECM watches the control signal on its way to the PEM, the fuel pump control module. The code is stored when that signal is incorrect. The cause may be an open or short circuit in the wiring, or a fault in the fuel pump in the tank that gives too low pressure. The code is general and does not say what type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Open or short circuit in the wiring
- Fault in the fuel pump in the tank, giving too low pressure
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the connector to the fuel pump control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the control wire to the pump control module has no open or short circuit
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the fuel pump in the tank and its control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine does not start but cranks
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
- The car hesitates or surges during acceleration
- The engine stalls, at idle or while driving, at any time or all the time
- A message in the display together with a warning symbol
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
