What does this fault code mean?

The ECM sets fuel pressure through the fuel pump control module using a PWM (pulse-width modulated) signal. The code is stored when the PWM signal between the ECM and the fuel pump control module is missing. It is a general electrical fault with an open circuit, which may be caused by a signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage or a damaged fuel pump control module.

    Possible causes

    • Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
    • Damaged fuel pump control module

    What you can do

    1. 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
    2. 2If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the fuel pump with the ignition on and see whether it runs; if it does not, the fault is likely still present
    3. 3Check the connector to the fuel pump control module for contact resistance and oxidation
    4. 4With the ignition off and the connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the fuel pump control module has no open circuit or short circuit to ground
    5. 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the fuel pump control module and the fuel pump

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • The engine does not start but cranks
    • The engine stalls while driving, at any time or all the time
