What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the circuits to the injectors and stores the code when the signal to the injector for cylinder 4 is too high. The code is general and does not say what type of fault it is. It applies to cylinder 4 only.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged injector
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Several damaged injectors
- A fault inside the ECM itself
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2With the ignition off and the connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the cylinder 4 signal wire has no open circuit
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the cylinder 4 signal wire has no contact with supply voltage
- 4Check the connector to the cylinder 4 injector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the injectors for cylinder 4 and their control

- The emissions warning lamp comes on
- The engine does not run on all cylinders
- Uneven idle
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- The car lacks power
