What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compensates for small variations in combustion by adjusting the fuel amount per cylinder. For cylinder 4, the code is stored when the adjustment needs more fuel than the highest permitted adjustment. The fault is detected at idle when the engine is warm. The code is general and does not say what type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Fault related to the injectors
- Deal first with another fault code, if one is stored
- Incorrectly programmed injector class
- Incorrectly fitted injector
- Leaking injector
- Uneven or poor compression
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes; if another fault code is stored, deal with it first and then check whether this code returns
- 2Check the connector to the cylinder 4 injector, that it is firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 3Have a workshop check that the correct injector class is programmed and that the cylinder 4 injector is seated correctly and not leaking
- 4Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment measure the compression in cylinder 4
