What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns turbo unit B, where the boost pressure is above the permitted limit. The two turbo units share the boost control: the smaller one works at lower engine speeds and the larger one at higher speeds. The code is stored when the engine control module (ECM) detects that the compressor pressure is too high. It is a general code.
Possible causes
- Clogged hoses to the turbo unit or the turbo control valve
- Compressor bypass valve sticking or stuck in the closed position
- Damaged bypass turbo control valve
- Wastegate turbo control valve sticking
- Damaged pressure actuator for the wastegate valve
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the hoses to the turbo unit and the turbo control valve are not clogged or damaged
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the bypass turbo control valve and see whether it clicks when activated
- 4Check that the wastegate valve and its pressure actuator are not sticking and are correctly set
- 5Check that the compressor bypass valve has not stuck in the closed position
- 6Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check turbo unit B and its valves
Symptoms you may notice4
- The car lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The car lacks power
- The car hesitates or surges during acceleration, deceleration and at steady speed
- A message in the display together with a warning symbol
