What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns turbo unit B, where the boost pressure is below the permitted limit. The ECM confirms that the compressor builds pressure when it is engaged, and the code is stored when no pressure rise is recorded after the compressor has been requested. Boost control is shared with the other turbo unit.
Possible causes
- Compressor control valve bypass sticking or stuck in the open position
- Damaged compressor clutch
- Damaged bypass turbo control valve
- Air leak in the intake system
- Damaged turbo unit
- Wastegate turbo control valve sticking, or a damaged pressure actuator for the wastegate valve
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the air hoses in the intake system are airtight with no leaks
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the compressor and see whether it engages
- 4Check that the wastegate valve and its pressure actuator work and are not sticking
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the compressor clutch, the bypass valves and the turbo unit
Symptoms you may notice3
- The car lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The car hesitates or surges during acceleration, deceleration and at steady speed
- A message in the display together with a warning symbol
What the fault can affect3
- The compressor is switched off
- The compressor pressure sensor reading is set to atmospheric pressure instead
- Performance is reduced at low engine speeds
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
