What does this fault code mean?
On diesel cars, the ECM regulates the intake air valve and weighs a calculated value against a set point. The code is stored when the signal from the regulating valve is too high. The fault can only be detected with the ignition in position II and the test running. The code is general and does not say what type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged intake air regulating valve
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector to the intake air regulating valve for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3With the ignition on and the connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check whether the signal wire to the valve has voltage to ground
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the intake air regulating valve and see whether it responds
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the intake air regulating valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control stops
