ECM-P02E172 - Diesel Intake Air Flow Control Performance. Mechanical Failures. Actuator stuck open
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the actual position of the intake air control valve with a calculated reference value. If the two do not match, the fault code is stored. The fault code means the valve is mechanically stuck in the open position.
Possible causes
- The control valve is stuck in the open position
- Damaged control valve in the intake air inlet
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car with the engine running to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the flap in the intake pipe moves freely and is not stuck open; remove dirt or debris that blocks its movement
- 3Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the valve's reference value and actual position in live data with the engine running, and see whether the actual position follows the reference
- 5If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control valve and replace it if it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
