What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) measures the voltage on the signal cable from the intake air control valve. If the signal is too low, the fault code is stored. The cause can be poor connections, an open or grounded signal cable, or a damaged control valve. The code is general and does not specify the type of fault.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- The signal cable is short-circuited to ground
- Damaged control valve in the intake air inlet
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and check whether it returns after a test drive
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Check the connectors at the control valve and at the control module for loose connections, oxidation and corrosion
- 4Check the signal cable for breaks and chafing; with a multimeter, confirm that the cable has no contact with ground (the body)
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the signal from the control valve in live data with the ignition on and see whether it is low
- 6If the fault remains after these checks: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
