What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal cable to the intake air control valve. If the voltage on the cable is too high, the fault code is stored. This is usually caused by the cable being short-circuited to voltage or by a damaged control valve. The code is general and does not specify the type of fault.
Possible causes
- The signal cable is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged control valve in the intake air inlet
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Check the signal cable for chafing and places where it may have touched the positive supply or another live wire
- 4Check the connectors at the control valve and at the control module for loose connections and corrosion
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the signal from the control valve in live data with the ignition on and see whether it is high
- 6If the fault remains: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
