What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the current consumption of the control motor for the intake air control valve with an expected calculated consumption. If the current is too high, the fault code is stored. The code is general and does not specify the type of fault. The cable may be short-circuited to voltage, or the control valve may be damaged.
Possible causes
- Cable short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged control valve in the intake air inlet
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Check the cable to the control valve for chafing and places where it may have touched the positive supply
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the control motor current in live data with the engine running and see whether it is high when the valve moves
- 5If the fault remains: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine warning light ("Check engine") lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- No exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control
- Soot particles are not burned off as they should be
