System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the EGR valve and performs an adaptation of it when needed, to check that the values are plausible. If the signal from the EGR valve position sensor is faulty or implausible, the fault code is stored. The code is general and does not specify the type of fault. The fault affects EGR control.
Possible causes
- Loose connection
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Check the connectors to the EGR valve and position sensor for play and oxidation; gently move them with the engine running and see whether the fault changes
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the EGR valve position in live data with the engine running and see whether the value changes when the engine is loaded
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment carry out the EGR adaptation and check the position sensor and the EGR valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- No exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control
