What does this fault code mean?
The fault code is event-based and intended as information; it does not show a fault in the engine control module. It is stored when, while driving on the road, the control module detects that the intensity of the registered misfires exceeds a threshold. It can be linked to a damaged ignition coil or a leaking injector.
Possible causes
- Damaged ignition coil
- Leaking injector
What you can do
- 1First check for other fault codes for fuel, camshafts or ignition; these should be traced before this code
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the misfire counters for each cylinder and see which cylinder stands out
- 3Check the ignition coil and injector on the cylinder that stands out for clear damage and connectors that are loose
- 4Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check and, if needed, replace the ignition coil or injector, and check whether a newer version of the engine control module software is available
Symptoms you may notice3
- Poor performance and lack of power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs roughly under acceleration
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs roughly at constant speed and when slowing down
