What does this fault code mean?
If the engine control module (ECM) detects emission-related misfires on cylinder 1 during the first period after engine start, the fault code is stored. The code points to cylinder 1 and shows that the misfire occurs just after starting, and it has its own fault-tracing sequence.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level
- The engine does not reach operating temperature between several cold starts
- Contaminated or incorrect fuel
- Air leak
- Damaged ignition coil
- Incorrectly calculated ethanol content
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes; codes for camshaft control or the camshaft control valve are traced first
- 2Check that the fuel that has been filled is the correct type and that the fuel level is sufficient
- 3Make sure the engine oil is at the right level and that the intake system is not leaking
- 4Check the ignition coil on cylinder 1 and its connectors and wiring for damage or oxidation
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the misfire counter for cylinder 1 with the engine running and see whether it differs from the others
- 6Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the crankcase ventilation, the compression and the fuel pressure
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine starts with difficulty
- Uneven idle
- Reduced performance and lack of power
- The engine hesitates or surges when driven
- The Check engine light lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- Rear oxygen sensor control is switched off
- Lambda control is switched off
