What does this fault code mean?
Misfires on cylinder 2 that can damage the catalytic converter are registered by the engine control module (ECM) shortly after the engine starts. It points to cylinder 2 and belongs to the overheating codes, because unburned fuel can make the catalytic converter too hot.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level
- The engine does not reach operating temperature between several cold starts
- Poor fuel quality, for example summer fuel in winter
- Clogged or leaking injection valve
- Uneven compression
- Incorrectly calculated ethanol content
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes; codes for camshaft control should be traced first
- 2Check that the intake system does not leak and that the crankcase ventilation is clear
- 3Check that the fuel level is sufficient and that the fuel suits the season
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the misfire counters for each cylinder in live data and see whether cylinder 2 differs
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the injection valve and the compression on cylinder 2
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
- Uneven idle
- The engine lacks power and performs poorly
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs roughly when driven
- The Check engine light lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- Rear oxygen sensor control is switched off
- Lambda control is switched off
