What does this fault code mean?
The fault concerns misfires on cylinder 3. The engine control module (ECM) measures oscillations in the flywheel, and if cylinder 3 misfires too often the code is stored. It is general and does not say what type of fault it is. The cause may lie in the fuel, the fuel pressure or the air intake.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level
- Contaminated or incorrect fuel
- Air leak
- Damaged injection valves
- Dirty or damaged camshaft profile solenoid
- Fault in the EGR system
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes and trace camshaft codes first, if there are any
- 2Make sure the engine oil is at the right level and that the fuel tank is not nearly empty
- 3Check the ignition coil and injection valve on cylinder 3 for damage and oxidised connectors
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the misfire counter for cylinder 3 with the engine running and compare it with the other cylinders
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the camshaft profile solenoid and the compression, and update the software if a newer version is available
