What does this fault code mean?
After the engine starts, the engine control module (ECM) detects emission-related misfires on cylinder 4 and then stores the fault code. The code points to cylinder 4 and belongs to the codes for incorrect operation of that particular cylinder.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level
- The engine does not reach operating temperature between several cold starts
- Contaminated or incorrect fuel
- Air leak
- Damaged ignition coil
- Incorrect fuel pressure
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes; camshaft control codes are traced first
- 2Look over the engine oil level and the fuel level
- 3Check the ignition coil on cylinder 4 for damage and whether its connector is loose
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the misfire counter for cylinder 4 with the engine running and see whether it differs from the others
- 5Have a workshop check the crankcase ventilation, the fuel pressure and the compression
