What does this fault code mean?
The fault code shows that cylinder 7 is misfiring. It is set when the engine control module (ECM) measures more misfires than allowed on that cylinder. The code says nothing about the type of fault. The cause may lie in the fuel, the fuel pressure, the air intake or the compression.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level
- Contaminated or incorrect fuel
- Air leak
- Clogged crankcase ventilation
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Uneven compression
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes; camshaft-related codes are traced first
- 2Check the fuel tank, the fuel quality and the engine oil level
- 3Check that the intake system does not leak and that the crankcase ventilation is free of clogging
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the misfire counter for cylinder 7 with the engine running and see whether it differs from the other cylinders
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the fuel pressure, the injection valve and the compression on cylinder 7
Symptoms you may notice5
- The emissions warning light lights up or flashes
- The engine is hard to start
- The engine does not fire on every cylinder
- Uneven idle
- A message appears in the text display
