What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives a request from the transmission control module (TCM) over the CAN network for a higher engine speed to ease downshifting. If the request lies outside the permitted limits or is otherwise faulty, the fault code is stored. The fault appears when downshifting while driving.
Possible causes
- Fault in the transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car with a few downshifts to see whether it returns
- 2First check whether there are fault codes in the transmission control module; these should be traced before the engine control module
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the engine speed request from the transmission in live data during a downshift and see whether the value is reasonable
- 4Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the transmission control module and the communication on the CAN network
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
