What does this fault code mean?
An internal fault in the knock control circuit of the engine control module causes the fault code to be stored. The fault therefore lies in the control module itself and not in a sensor. The car may have reduced performance and an ignition timing that is pulled back as a protective measure.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses for the engine control module are intact and that the battery gives full voltage
- 3Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the engine control module and, if it is damaged, replace and program it
Symptoms you may notice2
- Reduced performance
- The emissions warning light is on
What the fault can affect1
- Ignition timing is retarded as a safety measure
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
