What does this fault code mean?
An internal component fault in the engine control module means the knock control does not work correctly. When the control module detects the fault in the knock control circuit, the code is set. Since the fault is in the control module, checking the sensors first will not help.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive the car; if it returns, this points to an internal fault in the engine control module
- 2Check that the supply to the engine control module is in order, with intact fuses and good battery voltage
- 3Have a workshop check the engine control module and replace it if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- Reduced performance
- The emissions warning light lights up
What the fault can affect1
- Ignition timing is retarded as a safety measure
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
