Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) sets the fault code when knock sensor 1 on bank 1 delivers signals it judges to be faulty. The cause may be a break in the signal cable, a short circuit to ground or voltage, or a damaged knock sensor. It is the front knock sensor that is meant.
Possible causes
- Break in the signal cable
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Signal cable short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged knock sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector on the front knock sensor for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check the signal cable for breaks; with a multimeter, confirm that the cable has no contact with ground (the body) or with voltage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the knock signal from the front sensor in live data with the engine running and see whether it is missing or clearly off
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment replace the knock sensor if it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
