What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal from the left knock sensor and sets the fault code when the signal is too high. This can be caused by a signal cable short-circuited to voltage or by an open circuit. An incorrectly fitted or damaged knock sensor can also produce the fault code.
Possible causes
- Signal cable short-circuited to voltage
- Incorrectly fitted knock sensor
- Damaged knock sensor
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the wiring to the left knock sensor is complete, with no breaks or chafing, and that the plug is firmly connected
- 3With a multimeter, confirm that the cable is unbroken and has no contact with the positive supply
- 4Check that the left knock sensor is correctly fitted
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the sensor and the wiring and replace the knock sensor if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance and lack of power while driving
What the fault can affect2
- Ignition timing is retarded as a safety measure
- Boost pressure is reduced
