What does this fault code mean?
Knock sensor 2, which registers knock on cylinders 1 to 4, produces a signal that is too low compared with limits that depend on engine speed. When the signal falls outside the limits, the fault code is set. The fault may be caused by poor contact, a loose sensor or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation at the knock sensor plug
- Loosely fitted knock sensor
- Damaged knock sensor
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that knock sensor 2 is firmly seated and has not worked loose
- 3Check the plug on knock sensor 2 for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the knock signal from sensor 2 with sensor 1 in live data with the engine running
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment replace knock sensor 2 if it is damaged

- The engine hesitates, surges or runs roughly during acceleration
- The engine hesitates or surges at constant speed and when slowing down
