ECM-P033629 - Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance. General Signal Failures. Signal signal invalid
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the signal from the crankshaft position sensor, which counts the magnetic poles on the magnet wheel while the engine runs. The fault is stored when the module detects a faulty signal from the sensor. It can lie in the sensor wiring, in the connections or in the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Loose connections
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit or short circuit to ground in the supply wire to the sensor
- Open circuit or short circuit to ground in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the ground lead
- Sensor fitted incorrectly or damaged
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status for the code. A status of 'No fault found' means the fault is not active right now.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the supply and signal wires to the sensor have no open circuit or short to ground (the body).
- 4Check that the ground lead to the sensor is secure and not broken.
- 5Check that the sensor is correctly fitted and that the connector is free from oxidation.
- 6If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the engine speed in live data while the engine runs and check that the value is steady.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine stalls
- Engine does not start and only cranks
