What does this fault code mean?
The signal from the camshaft sensor is watched by the engine control module (ECM). The camshaft is divided into segments, and the fault is stored when the ECM detects the wrong number of segments over two crankshaft revolutions, which is one camshaft revolution. The code applies to the camshaft sensor on bank 1, or to the single sensor if the engine has only one.
Possible causes
- Fault in the cable harness or connectors that only occurs now and then
- Camshaft sensor fitted incorrectly
- Damaged camshaft sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the wires to the camshaft sensor
- Short circuit in the wires to the camshaft sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine, raise the engine speed a few times and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means the fault is permanent.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check that the connector at the camshaft sensor is secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance, and that the sensor is fixed in the right position.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the camshaft sensor have no open circuit and are not shorted to ground or supply voltage.
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool and your equipment shows it, follow the camshaft sensor position or speed in live data while the engine runs.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the wiring and the camshaft sensor.

- Engine lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- Car hesitates or jerks while driving, for example during acceleration or at steady speed
- Check engine light is on or behaves abnormally
- Engine does not start, sometimes or every time
- Engine stalls
