What does this fault code mean?

The frequency of the signal from the camshaft sensor is too high. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal and compares it with the signal from the crankshaft sensor. The code applies to the camshaft sensor on bank 1, or to the single sensor if the engine has only one.

    Possible causes

    • Damaged camshaft sensor
    • Loose connections
    • Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
    • Damaged crankshaft position sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means the fault is permanent.
    2. 2Check that the fuses are intact.
    3. 3With the ignition off, look over the connector at the camshaft sensor and clean it if it is dirty or corroded.
    4. 4Check that the camshaft sensor is fixed firmly and correctly fitted in its position.
    5. 5If your diagnostic tool shows it, compare the camshaft sensor position in live data with the engine speed while the engine runs.
    6. 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the camshaft sensor and the crankshaft sensor.

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Engine does not start but cranks

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
