VOLVO
ECM-P034138 - Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 or single sensor). FM (Frequency Modulated) / PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) Failures. Signal frequency incorrect
System

Applies to the following models:

Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The frequency of the signal from the camshaft sensor is incorrect. The engine control module (ECM) keeps watch on the camshaft sensor signal for as long as the engine runs and compares it with the crankshaft sensor signal. The code applies to the camshaft sensor on bank 1, or to the single sensor if the engine has only one.
Possible causes
- Loose connections
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Incorrectly installed camshaft position sensor
- Open circuit or short circuit to ground in the supply or signal wire
- Open circuit in the ground lead
- Damaged camshaft position sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means a permanent fault.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check that the connector at the camshaft sensor is secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the camshaft sensor have no open circuit and are not shorted to ground (the body).
- 5Check that the camshaft sensor is correctly fitted and that its ground lead is intact.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the camshaft sensor.
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine does not start but cranks
