What does this fault code mean?
The fault is stored when the engine control module, during start-up, cannot read the gaps between the camshaft teeth that should be present in one camshaft revolution. The fault concerns the range and performance of the camshaft sensor, and the code does not say which type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Wiring or connector fault that comes and goes
- Camshaft sensor fitted incorrectly
- Damaged camshaft sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means the fault is permanent.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check that the camshaft sensor is correctly fitted and that its connector is clean and secure.
- 4Check that the wiring to the camshaft sensor has no chafing, pinched areas or loose clips.
- 5If your diagnostic tool shows it, read the camshaft sensor position or speed in live data when the engine starts.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the camshaft sensor and its wiring.
Symptoms you may notice5
- Check engine light is on or behaves abnormally
- Automatic engine start/stop does not work
- Car lacks power
- Car hesitates or jerks while driving, for example during acceleration or when slowing down
- Car hesitates or jerks at steady speed
What the fault can affect1
- The ECM uses the crankshaft sensor signal instead
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
