What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the position of the camshaft with the position of the crankshaft. The fault is stored when the signal is incorrect, and it can lie in how the camshaft is fitted or in the camshaft itself. The code does not say which type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Camshaft incorrectly fitted, for example after work on the camshaft drive
- Damaged camshaft
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means the fault is permanent.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3If the camshaft drive has recently been worked on, have a workshop check that the camshaft is correctly fitted in relation to the crankshaft.
- 4If your diagnostic tool shows it, read the camshaft sensor position or speed in live data when the engine starts.
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the camshaft and the camshaft sensor.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine does not start, sometimes or every time
- Automatic engine start/stop does not work
