What does this fault code mean?
The camshaft sensor signal is a PWM signal, and the engine control module (ECM) checks it while the engine runs. The fault is stored when the signal stays constantly low, which can be caused by a short to ground in the signal wire. The code applies to the intake camshaft sensor on bank 1, or to the single sensor if the engine has only one.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short circuit to ground
- Open circuit in the supply wire
- Loose connections
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means the fault is permanent.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the camshaft sensor does not touch ground or the body.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the camshaft sensor is not broken.
- 5Check that the connector at the camshaft sensor is secure, since loose connections can cause this code.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the wiring between the camshaft sensor and the control module.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine does not start, sometimes or every time
- Engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
