What does this fault code mean?
The signal from the camshaft sensor is constantly high, which the engine control module (ECM) registers as a fault while the engine runs. The fault can come from a short to supply voltage or from an open circuit. The code applies to the intake camshaft sensor on bank 1, or to the single sensor if the engine has only one.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Short circuit to supply voltage in the signal cable
- Short circuit to ground in the supply cable
- Open circuit in the ground lead
- Damaged camshaft position sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine, raise the speed and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means a permanent fault.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check the camshaft sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the camshaft sensor is not shorted to supply voltage and has no open circuit.
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the ground lead to the sensor is not broken and that the supply wire is not shorted to ground.
- 6If the fault returns after these checks, have a workshop test the camshaft sensor.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine does not start, sometimes or every time
- Engine is hard to start, and the starter turns it slowly
