What does this fault code mean?
The fault is recorded as intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and it may not be present right now. The engine control module (ECM) checks the camshaft sensor signal, and the fault is stored when the signal is missing or faulty. The fault concerns the camshaft sensor on bank 1, or the single sensor if the engine has only one.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Short circuit on the cables to the camshaft sensor
- Camshaft sensor fitted incorrectly
- Damaged camshaft sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status. 'No fault found' means the fault is not active right now.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check that the connector at the camshaft sensor is secure and free from oxidation.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the camshaft sensor are not shorted to ground (the body) or to supply voltage.
- 5Check that the camshaft sensor is correctly fitted in its position.
- 6If your diagnostic tool shows it, follow the camshaft sensor position or speed in live data during a test drive.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
