What does this fault code mean?
The fault is recorded as intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and it may not be present right now. The fault applies to the intake camshaft sensor on bank 2. The engine control module (ECM) reads the gear wheel on the camshaft through the sensor, and the fault is stored when the ECM counts too few segments over a set number of crankshaft revolutions.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Signal cable short circuit to supply voltage
- Signal cable short circuit to ground
- Camshaft sensor fitted incorrectly
- Damaged camshaft sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine, raise the engine speed a few times and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means a permanent fault.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check that the connector at the bank 2 camshaft sensor is secure and free from oxidation.
- 4Check that the bank 2 camshaft sensor is correctly fitted and not damaged.
- 5If your diagnostic tool shows it, read the bank 2 camshaft sensor in live data while the engine runs.
- 6After a repair, read the fault status again to confirm that the fault is gone.
Symptoms you may notice5
- Malfunction indicator light (MIL) is on
- Car lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- Car lacks power while driving
- Car hesitates or jerks during acceleration
- Car hesitates or jerks when slowing down
What the fault can affect2
- The ECM uses the crankshaft sensor signal instead
- Variable valve timing (VVT) control is blocked
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
