What does this fault code mean?
The signal cable between the engine control module (ECM) and the ignition coil is shorted to ground. The fault is stored when the incorrect value stays over several driving cycles in a row, and it concerns the primary and secondary circuit of the coil. The ECM controls the ignition coil so that the spark occurs at the right time.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Signal cable short circuit to ground
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status. 'No fault found' means the fault is not active right now.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check the connectors at the ignition coil for contact resistance and oxidation.
- 4Check that the signal wire to the ignition coil has no chafing and does not rest against the body, where it could short to ground.
- 5Check that the ignition coil is secure and not damaged, for example cracked.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the ignition coil and the wire.
