What does this fault code mean?
Ignition coil E has a signal wire that is shorted to ground. The code is only stored once the fault has persisted over two or more driving cycles in a row.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire short circuit to ground
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means the fault is permanent.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check the connector at ignition coil E for contact resistance and oxidation.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to ignition coil E is not shorted to ground (the body).
- 5Check that the signal wire to ignition coil E is not chafed where it could touch the body.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check ignition coil E and its signal wire.
Symptoms you may notice4
- Engine lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- Car lacks power while driving
- Car hesitates or jerks during acceleration
- Car hesitates or jerks when slowing down
What the fault can affect1
- Closed loop control of lambda is blocked
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
