What does this fault code mean?
The code applies to the exhaust camshaft sensor on bank 1. The camshaft is divided into segments, and the engine control module (ECM) counts them using the camshaft sensor. The fault is stored when the count is wrong over two crankshaft revolutions, which is one camshaft revolution.
Possible causes
- Fault in the cable harness or connectors that only occurs now and then
- Camshaft sensor fitted incorrectly
- Damaged camshaft sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine, raise the engine speed and read the fault status. 'Fault found' means the fault is permanent.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check the connector at the exhaust camshaft sensor on bank 1 for contact resistance and oxidation.
- 4Check that the wiring to the exhaust camshaft sensor on bank 1 has no chafing or loose connectors, since a wiring fault can come and go.
- 5If your diagnostic tool shows it, read the exhaust camshaft sensor position in live data while the engine runs.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check how the exhaust camshaft sensor is fitted and its wiring.
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light is on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The ECM uses the crankshaft sensor signal instead
