What does this fault code mean?
The fault is a short circuit to ground, and the signal from the exhaust camshaft sensor on bank 1 is constantly low while the engine runs. The engine control module (ECM) registers this as a fault.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short circuit to ground
- Open circuit in the supply wire
- Loose connections
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status. 'No fault found' means the fault is not active right now.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check that the connector at the exhaust camshaft sensor on bank 1 is secure and free from oxidation.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground (the body).
- 5Check that the supply wire to the exhaust camshaft sensor is not broken.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the exhaust camshaft sensor and its wiring.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine does not start, sometimes or every time
- Engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
