What does this fault code mean?
The ECM drives the glow plugs via the glow plug control unit (GCU) and a built-in relay. The code is set when the GCU signals that it has detected a fault. It concerns the sensing circuit for the glow plugs and does not say which type of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Loose connections
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Wiring short circuit to ground or supply voltage
- Open circuit in the wiring
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, switch on the ignition and read the fault status for the code. 'Fault found' means the fault is permanent.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3With the ignition off, check that the connectors at the glow plug control unit are secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires between the glow plug control unit and the engine control module have no open circuit and are not shorted to ground or supply voltage.
- 5Check that the wiring has no chafing or loose clips, since loose connections can cause this code.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the glow plug control unit and the glow plug relay.
